Long before MACKINTHEDARK became a name, Mack was building a life around music, creativity, technology, and independent culture. A Detroit native with deep roots in the city's underground creative scene, she came up making music, performing, collaborating, and creating outside of the traditional industry machine.
That journey included The Switchblades, the genre-bending Detroit collective Mack created alongside Liah Lazer, whose energy, chemistry, and creative partnership became an important part of Mack's musical history. The two are still connected creatively, carrying that history forward while stepping into a new chapter.
Now, years later, Mack is returning to that world with a different perspective — and a lot more life behind the music.
MACKINTHEDARK is the latest chapter.
The name says something about the music, but it also speaks to the woman behind it. Mack's work lives in the space between what people see and what they don't. The confidence. The chaos. The relationships. The ambition. The nights spent figuring things out. The moments when starting over becomes less of a setback and more of a creative reset.
Her sound refuses to be boxed into one category. R&B, hip-hop, alternative influences, melodic records, street records, intimate records — the common thread is Mack herself.
And that independence extends beyond the music.
Mack has built digital platforms, developed creative technology, produced live experiences, and continued finding ways to put the infrastructure in her own hands. For her, being an independent artist isn't simply about releasing music without a major label. It's about understanding the entire ecosystem around the music — and creating her own.
